How to Recalibrate Your Speed Reading for Larger Than Stock Tires
Depending on the application, the Hypertech Max Energy Spectrum Power Programmer®, Speedometer Calibrator® or In-Line Speedometer Calibrator® Module allows you to recalibrate your speed reading for installed larger than stock tire sizes. When the vehicle leaves the factory, the vehicle computer is calibrated for the tire size installed at the factory. And when you install a tire size that is larger than the stock tire size, it is likely the speedometer reading will be incorrect.
Max Energy Spectrum Power Programmer® or Speedometer Calibrator®
Plug the programmer in to the diagnostic port under the driver’s side of the dash. Then follow the on-screen prompts and select the newly installed tire height on the Programmer’s screen. The easiest way to determine the tire height is to simply measure in inches from the ground to the top of the tire.
Once all other performance features are selected, select PRESS Y TO BEGIN PROGRAMMING. Follow any on-screen prompts and in no time, your vehicle computer has been recalibrated for the installed larger than stock tire size, as well as any other performance features you selected.
In-Line Speedometer Calibrator® Module
You will configure the Module to the new tire height before installing into the vehicle. Measure from the ground to the top of the tire to get the tire height in inches. After the Module has been configured, you can install both the In-Line Speedometer Calibrator® Module and harness to the vehicle, usually behind the instrument cluster.
