The Hypertech Speedometer Calibrator: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Hypertech In-line Speedometer Calibrator

It is a programmed device that plugs into your vehicle’s computer. Its main purpose is to automatically adjust your speedometer and odometer readings after you have installed aftermarket tires or gear ratios.

Why Do I Need One?

Driving with an inaccurate speedometer is not only dangerous, but it can also get you into legal trouble. Another reason is your vehicle’s resale value. An accurate mileage reading on a car is important if you want to get the right sale price for your used vehicle or trade-in.

Is It Hard to Install?

No. Using the USB cable connect the In-line Speedometer Calibrator Module to your PC and enter the new tire height and/or rear gear ratio. Next, simply disconnect the factory connector to the instrument cluster (behind the dash), snap in the In-line Speedometer Calibrator Module, reconnect the cluster, and you’re done! In a matter of minutes, you can accurately correct your computer reading (as required by law).

Does It Work With Any Size Tire?

The Hypertech SC will accommodate non-stock tires from 22” to 54” in diameter.

Does It Do Anything Else Besides Calibrate My Speedometer and Gear Ratios?

Yes. It has a built-in Diagnostic Troubleshooting Code display. These are codes which indicate specific information about problems with your vehicle. When you take your car in for service, you can go equipped with those codes. If you are a DIY type of person, then you can look up each code to see what is going on with your vehicle.

Is It Compatible With My Vehicle?

The Hypertech SC is compatible with the majority of well-known cars, trucks, and SUVs on the road today. If you want to be sure, you can always check the Hypertech website to see if it will work with your make and model.
